The Redspin 2012 Heath Data Breach Report Breakdown

Based on the Redspin Breach Report 2012 that was released today, health data breaches were reduced marginally in 2012, but when the new HIPAA omnibus rule is factored into the equation, the company advised healthcare providers to stay on the offensive when it comes to breach prevention. Electronic Medical Billing Probed for Over-Billing
"Critics question credibility of federal panel charged with investigating"

The Obama administration is forging ahead with a multi-billion dollar plan to shift from paper to electronic medical records, despite continuing concerns the program may be prompting some doctors and hospitals to improperly bill higher fees to Medicare. An investigation into those billing questions — which convened a hearing Wednesday — has yet to produce much in the way of results, and critics are questioning the seriousness of the efforts. ICD-10's Heavy Footprint

Everyone knows ICD-10 will redefine the coding profession, but providers and patients also will feel its power.

A means to classify and track diseases and a mechanism for data collection and reimbursement, the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) has experienced many changes over the years. Way back in 1994, its 10th incarnation came into use in most of the world’s industrialized nations. However, the United States was not among those hopping on board with the new codes, instead opting to wait 20 years before joining the rest of the crowd.
