Dolbey's Fusion Forum User's Conference and Training Workshop, held every 2 years, offers future or current users of the Fusion Suite of products, the opportunity to assemble for networking and education with a chance to also earn valuable CE credits through AHIMA and AHDI.
This year Dolbey will hold the 2010 Fusion Forum in conjunction with AHIMA to assist those hospitals whose budgets have been constricted due to budget cuts. This allows hospitals to be able to experience two amazing conferences while only paying for the travel expenses of one!
For those users that have attended this conference in the past, this year's Fusion Forum will have a greater emphasis on training and networking. For those users that are new to the Fusion Forum this is the perfect opportunity to meet others that are facing the same issues that you are - HITECH, RAC, increased demand for productivity and turnaround times. This is a perfect opportunity to have access to not only your peers but, you will also have access to Dolbey's Technicians, Developers and Trainers. Discuss solutions that others are implementing and learn from each other at the Dolbey Fusion Forum this September.

Kozie's Coding CornerI was honored to be asked to participate in a panel discussion for the April 2010 AHIMA CAC Summit held in Washington, DC. The topic of discussion was, “Coding Competencies as They Relate to CAC Technology.” Following the Summit, we were asked to draft an article for the Journal for AHIMA [JAHIMA]. The article is entitled “Ready, Set, Automate…Preparing for Automation in Coding Workflows.” [Expect to find the article in the July, 2010, JAHIMA.] Here are just a few excerpts….
“Information systems competency is required to understand how computer software completes the routines that transform health record documentation data into suggested codes. Computer-assisted coding software automates steps in the workflow that can be safely and efficiently processed by a system and provides new tools that allow the process to be monitored, measured, and improved.”
At the same time that I worked with the AHIMA CAC Summit panel, I was approached to be part of a task force to re-write AHIMA’s 2004 Computer Assisted Coding Practice Brief. This was a feat considering the technology has matured beyond AHIMA’s expectations in the past six years! The brief is entitled : “Automated Coding Workflow and CAC Practice Guidance.” [Expect to find the brief in the July, 2010, JAHIMA.] Here is an excerpt…
“Organizations must have a well-defined vision for CAC technology in order to be able to measure the impact CAC has on the future process. Creating a visual representation of the current workflow will help outline the current state and assist in defining a desired future state by displaying where the greatest efficiencies could be gained.”
We’ll post both documents here in their entirety as soon as they’re made available, so check back often!
AHIMA is already planning the 2011 CAC Summit for April of next year in Baltimore, MD! Once again, the Technology Cyber Café Cocktail Reception will kick-off the event the evening prior to the Summit where attendees from both the ICD-10 Summit and the CAC Summit were given a sneak preview of some of the CAC products in the market. This was a nice transition from the ICD-10 Summit to the CAC Summit this past April. We can look forward to a larger than ever attendance next year as the health information profession continues to forge ahead to the October 1, 2013 ICD-10 deadline!
DID YOU KNOW?
Fusion CAC meets all of the standards set forth in AHIMA’s definition as published in their Practice Brief for CAC products: “Computer-assisted coding (CAC) is the use of computer software that automatically generates a set of medical codes for review/validation and/or use based upon clinical documentation provided by healthcare practitioners.”
